Un-form began as a personal, burning question that artistic director and choreographer Kuik Swee Boon posed to himself. The question concerned his role as an artist — the validity and value of such a profession to his own existence, and within the context of society. These questions were then extended to the dance artists, and their solos, devised in close collaboration with each person, were individual responses to this. One of Swee Boon’s most intimate and revealing works, the dance artists delve deep into their memories and experiences to understand their identity as artists and individuals, compelling audiences to embark on the same journey of self-contemplation.
Un-form was originally commissioned by National University of Singapore (NUS) Arts Festival 2013 as part of T.H.E Dance Company’s then annual Solo/Duet series. The work was also restaged and livestreamed from T.H.E's studio during the pandemic in 2020 as part of the company's #THEGOESONLINE series.
