T.H.E Second Company

T.H.E Second Company was founded in 2008 alongside T.H.E Dance Company, with the aim of identifying and nurturing aspiring dance artists towards a semi-professional standard in contemporary dance. Over the years, T.H.E Second Company has expanded its reach, offering opportunities to individuals with a demonstrated aptitude for dance, including serious dance hobbyists and emerging choreographers.

The company offers a distinctive training programme that is typically reserved for professional dance artists. Members undergo rigorous technique training under the guidance of T.H.E’s core artistic team and guest artists, building a solid physical and artistic foundation necessary to meet the demands of a semi-professional contemporary dance journey. Additionally, members receive critical feedback on both their performances and choreographic creations, cultivating not only artistic growth, but also the resilience needed to navigate the evolving demands of the professional dance world.

T.H.E Second Company’s intensive yet flexible structure allows members to deepen their practice while balancing educational, professional, and personal commitments. Equally vital are the diverse opportunities for public performances, encouraging members to make the most of their training and aim for recognised standards of artistic excellence.

Locally, T.H.E Second Company has performed at cont·act Contemporary Dance Festival (formerly M1 CONTACT Contemporary Dance Festival), liTHE (previously Emerging Choreographers), NUS Arts Festival, and Singapore Writers Festival. The company has also received invitations to perform in notable commissioned platforms such as Singapore: Inside Out, the SG50 celebrations, the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre’s inaugural Cultural Extravaganza 2017, and Together We Rise, a film project commissioned by the Singapore Tourism Board and National Arts Council in 2022. Beyond Singapore, T.H.E Second Company has also performed at Seoul International Dance Festival, in addition to joining T.H.E Dance Company on various international tours.
