cont·act Dance Festival 2026
cont·act Dance Festival is an annual dance festival presented by T.H.E Dance Company each June in Singapore. Bringing together artists from Singapore and abroad, the Festival presents performances, workshops, residencies, and professional exchanges that support both artistic creation and public engagement.
From its 16th edition in 2026, the Festival adopts the name cont·act Dance Festival, setting aside the word “contemporary” to invite audiences to encounter dance without preconceptions while remaining grounded in current artistic practices.
Through new works, collaborative processes, and dialogue, cont·act functions as both a presentation platform and a space for artists and audiences to meet.
12–14 June
DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre at Esplanade
Dance at Dusk returns to the heart of cont·act Dance Festival 2026, showcasing a new generation of local choreographic voices against the Marina Bay skyline. Performed by T.H.E Second Company, this all-ages outdoor series explores the intricate rhythms of human connection.
This year’s programme features two premieres by Singapore-based choreographers:
Kwek Yixuan’s Apart, Within, Together: Traces the subtle forces of waiting and return that gather and release an ensemble.
Jieying Nah’s Common Ground: Examines togetherness as a continuous negotiation between individuality, misalignment, and care.
Every performance is hosted by an emcee and includes Singapore Sign Language (SGP SL) interpretation, offering a welcoming space to pause and experience dance in the city. Dance at Dusk is presented in collaboration with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay.
19–21 June
Esplanade Theatre Studio
Presented by T.H.E Dance Company. Elusive brings together two distinctive international voices in collaboration with T.H.E’s main company. Each work explores how the body holds memory, sensation, and time.
The double bill features:
CARILLON by Panzetti/Ticconi (Italy/Germany): Inspired by music box mechanics, this work explores meticulous patterns and cycles. It asks: what happens when the reassuring rhythm of a machine begins to destabilise?
O:ro by Art Project BORA (South Korea): In their first creation with T.H.E, the artists translate mourning into physical vibration. It is a visceral exploration of sensations that stir, travel through the body, and resurface.
Elusive is presented in collaboration with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. The event is also included in the Asia-Europe Cultural Festival 2026 – Closing Curtain, organised by Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF).
20–21 June
T.H.E Studio, Goodman Arts Centre
Curated by T.H.E's assistant to artistic director Fiona Thng, ante-space is a studio platform that invites audiences to witness dance in its most raw, unfolding states.
Presented on a pay-as-you-wish basis, this edition features:
Love Thy Armour: An ongoing research project by Jieying Nah and Liu Yong Huay exploring the intersections of care, protection, and materiality.
Kwek Yixuan & Do Hyoyeon (South Korea): A first-draft sharing following a week-long residency in Singapore, ahead of the project's next phase in Daegu.
The Extended Body: A solo work performed by Kimberly Long and co-choreographed with Goh Shou Yi.
Experience these works-in-progress and engage in dialogue with the artists as they open their creative processes to the public.
22–26 June
T.H.E Studio, Goodman Arts Centre
Raw, visceral, and deeply expressive—T.H.E Mid-Year Intensive is an annual deep dive into the company’s mesmerising movement practice, rooted in HollowBody, the methodology developed by founding artistic director Kuik Swee Boon. Over five immersive days, participants engage in technique, HollowBody exploration, and repertoire learning, moving through the rhythm of a week in the life of a full-time dance artist at T.H.E.
This year’s edition offers an exclusive opportunity to explore an excerpt from the company’s latest work, Strangely Familiar, premiered in Hong Kong in November 2025, and in SIFA 2026. The intensive culminates in an intimate studio sharing, a space for reflection and embodied presence.
Train alongside T.H.E’s full-time dance artists and Swee Boon himself—move, discover, and experience dance in its fullest human expression.
Curated by T.H.E's assistant to artistic director Fiona Thng, cont·act Dance Festival 2026 presents a vibrant selection of 26 unique workshops tailored for every level of mover. For those seeking an intensive experience, our three multi-day, 9-hour workshops offer a deep dive into creative processes, culminating in intimate studio sharings. The rest of the programme features dynamic 1.5 and 2-hour sessions led by staples of the local industry as well as invited international practitioners.
Spanning a diverse range of practices—from contemporary concepts and Contact Improvisation to the intricate artistry of Threading—these workshops invite you to expand your physical vocabulary and engage with the pulse of Singapore’s dance community.
New to the Festival this year, the associate programmes expand how dance can be encountered. Taking place alongside the main lineup, this year’s programmes are presented by Dance Nucleus and Rolypoly Family, opening up additional spaces to gather and experience dance in different ways.
