“The tremendous world I have inside my head. But how [to] free myself and free it without being torn to pieces. And a thousand times [I’d] rather be torn to pieces than rather it in me or bury it…”
– Franz Kafka, Diaries of Franz Kafka
A cross-disciplinary encounter between dance and theatre, inspired by the surreal world of literary icon Franz Kafka.
Singapore’s T.H.E Dance Company and Nine Years Theatre come together for the very first time, led by artistic directors Kuik Swee Boon (T.H.E) and Nelson Chia (Nine Years Theatre), in a playful and moving rumination on human nature and its many faces. Join them on a dreamlike journey, as two of Singapore’s leading performing arts companies gallantly experience their own metamorphoses.
Regarded as one of the most influential writers of the 20th century, Franz Kafka’s works, including The Metamorphosis, The Trial and The Castle, have had such an impact that they have also given rise to the term “Kafkaesque”, in reference to his signature writing style and poignant depictions of human alienation and absurd bureaucracy.
premiere date 16–18 Sep 2021 | Goodman Arts Centre Black Box | Nah Jieying, Klievert Jon Mendoza, Goh Jia Yin & Maybelle Lek
T.H.E Dance Company is supported by the National Arts Council under the Major Company Scheme for the period from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2023.
