Award-winning composer-pianist Tze Toh has created music for films/animation, documentaries, contemporary dance and created Singapore’s only contemporary Asian fusion orchestra Tze n Looking Glass Orchestra. He has composed works for the Discovery Channel, Infinite Frameworks, filmmaker Royston Tan, and for international events such as Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame 2010, Singapore Showcase, Auckland. He also created the original live score for Ramesh Meyyappan’s theatre piece, Snails and Ketchup (part of the London 2012 London Cultural Olympiad). His orchestra performed for the official opening of Singapore’s iconic Gardens by the Bay in 2012.
In 2011 Toh won the first prize in the UK Songwriting contest and his debut fusion album Stories from wonderland was selected as one of the top 10 albums of 2011 by Business Times, for having “helped shape music in 2011”. He has performed both locally and overseas in festivals including the Indonesia Music Expo (IMEX), ASEAN Jazz Festival, Singapore Arts Festival, MOSAIC Music festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival. His composed works have been performed in France, Scotland, UK, New Zealand, Japan, Indonesia and Singapore.
A self-taught composer and pianist, his influences include Ennio Morricone, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Keith Jarrett, E.S.T trio, Yoko Kanno, (early) John Williams, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Igor Stravinsky.
