Lighting Designer
Born in Savonlinna, Finland, Rouhu studied lighting design at the Theatre Academy of Finland (Teatterikorkeakoulu) completing her Masters Degree in May 2009. In Finland she has worked with well known directors such as Saana Lavaste, Atro Kahiluoto and playwright-director Marjo Niemi in both established institutions as well as experimental projects.
Notable productions in Finland include Henrik Ibsen’s Peer Gynt, directed by Eero-Tapio Vuori at the Kajaani Theatre and Naytat Vieraalta Rakas with Marjo Niemi at the Teatteri Jurkka. During her Master’s Degree studies, Rouhu spent a year as an exchange student at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Artsdesigning lights for several of the academy’s major events.
Rouhu designed the lighting for T.H.E Dance Company‘s production Within.Without which premiered at the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival in 2009. It was subsequently performed at the 6th Guangdong Modern Dance Festival 2009. She also designed lights for Silence-T.H.E First Anniversary in August the same year at the Esplanade Theatre. In 2010, as the company’s resident artist, she designed lighting for T.H.E Emerging Choreographers II, The Man in the Centre, Contact 2010 and recently T.H.E Emerging Choreographers III. Rouhu has also toured with the company.
